LINEKER NEEDED AN IZAL ROLL
Anyone remember, hear of, know where these are?: Kyle Walker-Peters, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Kieran Dowell, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sheyi Ojo, Freddie Woodman, Jonjoe Kenny, Jake Clarke-Salter, Ademola Lookman Josh Onomah, Lewis Cook, Fikayo Tomori, Paul Simpson
They were in England's 2017 (June 11th) World Cup winning team (U20) who beat Venezuela in Suwon, South Korea. With our U21s just winning the Toulon for the third year in succession the future must be bright.
On this day in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico, Alan Clarke scored a penalty against Czecholovakia to give England another 3 points in the Group having already beaten Romania 1-0 with Geoff Hurst's goal. We were beaten 1-0 by Brazil who were unbeaten in the group. This was "Sniffer's" debut, his wife's birthday, his wedding anniversary and the anniversary of his transfer from Fulham to Leicester City. On a promise? need we remind you what happened later? Well Banks was unfit.....
In 1990 England drew with the Republic of Ireland 1-1 in Cagliari, with a Lineker goal. Both teams qualified with England amassing 4 points with another draw against Netherlands and a win against Egypt. Of course we later lost to the Germans on penalties in the semi-final. and lost third place to Italy. Here is Gary having one of his dirtier moments against the ROI:
