A MARRIAGE OF GRIT AND GUILE

Have a look at the You Tube clip of Jude Bellingham, an independent school boy prodigy, who plays for Birmingham City and is being eyed up by more famous clubs! He is on a record breaking journey as the club's youngest player at 16 years and 38 days, taking over from Trevor Francis who previously held the club's record for youngest player. In August, having scored against Stoke in the League, he became the club's youngest scorer. He has scored four goals and made 20 chances including 2 assists, so far. He has been used on both sides of the midfield and central too.

Jude was picked out as a skinny 8 year old City academy player, with dazzling skills and then as a 13 year old, he took on defenders and was seen to use clever volleys and lobs against Manchester United Youth. He made a first team "bow" against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup tie at Fratton Park. Clever by the club, to make his debut away from home, out of the limelight.

Jude has started 25 Championship games and been in 32,  not bad for a lad who is not old enough to have a driving licence and he has had talks with Solskjaer, Ed Woodward and Alex Ferguson at Carrington, the United training ground. They are favourites to sign him.

Birmingham City academy manager, Kristjaan Speakman, saw Jude's ability during the club's Under 12 programme and comments on his ability to take in information and show technical ability.
He is an intelligent too, having attended an "independent school", he proved to be a quick learner.

If you watch the video you will see that he makes a huge number of tackles, the second highest of any Championship player this season. Quite a lot of his tackles were low to the ground and left footed, avoiding the body to body clash with older men. I have to say that I'm not convinced by the number of vital assists he makes or the goals he scores in the film, but he still looks good.

Birmingham claim that they have managed Jude carefully, by putting him into play against some older age groups, to give him a physical challenge but then to bring him "back to earth" with his own cohort, to enable him to shine.

Earning £145 a week, this starlet, on away fixtures, has to change in a separate changing room from the rest of the older boys in the team, for "safe guarding " reasons! The manager, Pep Clotet knows that he is going to lose this super star, but he is proud to have been part involved in his development.

Jude, from Stourbridge, was at the independent, The Priory School, in Edgbaston. He helped the school win the ISFA U16 Shield in 2018 and has played for England U15, 16 and 17 year old age groups, captaining his country and being named Player of the Tournament in the Syrenka Cup (friendly tournament in preparation for the European U17 Championships). He was voted Young EFL Player of the Month in November 2019. His father is a sergeant in the West Midlands' Police and is younger brother, Jobe, is with the Brum academy also. This is a reflection by Jude.......
