IS BEACONSFIELD INTERESTING?

Well I have never been but it is an interesting place.

James Corden, Bert Weedon, Barry Gibbs, Enid Blyton (did you indulge in Noddy and Big Ears), Zoe Ball; some more famous than others. They are all connected by where they live, which at the last time of asking was Beaconsfield, in Bucks. Bert Weedon? Apache? Guitarist?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNQG8zQTyHI

By listening and following Bert's guitar "schooling", anyone could play the guitar in a day. I did...it was a Tuesday and I played the guitar all day to no avail. But let's get back to Beaconsfield, whose name comes from "beechen field" a place where beech trees grow, on the Chiltern Chalky highway between London and Oxford, with many coaching inns along its main street, not far from Burnham Beeches. There won't be many people reading this who will link Bert to Beech...maybe his guitar plectrum was made from an ancient beech tree. Would you trust him?

This was the home constituency of Benjamin Disraeli. George K Chesterton has his roots there, yes also Terry Pratchett; then there's Bekonscot, the famed "model village" (which I have been to in the past), there's a first in the "World Film Studio" and now the National Film and Television Studio, where Nick Park (yes Wallace and Gromit) learned his trade...the list goes on. It was deemed the richest town in Britain in 2008.

Below some footy played at the model village....taken from an ancient archived photo.

Beaconsfield Town FC have their roots at Holloway Park now and they play in the Southern League Premier Division (South). The Rams have a complicated history but recently was formed with the merger of Beaconsfield United from the Spartan League and Slough Youth Club Old Boys (SYCOB) from the Chiltonian League in 1990. Hence the new name,

By the way, within minutes of each other I heard the names Chris Oakes-Munger and Desmond Swayne (both ex teaching colleagues) allowed to speak on Radio 4, telling the "Any Answers" listeners, how the Covid crisis should be conducted and then my wife's old school friend, Christine chipped in with her four penneth as well...Small world?

Back to footy, the Rams recently lost 3-0 to Aveley from the Thames Estuary, not a pleasant place to play. A collegue of mine way back on leaving the pitch at half time was hit over the head by a mum with her umbrella, just in front of me, as he was heading to the safety of the away dressing room. "That's for fouling my son...." she said. The Rams currently have P6 D2 L4 F4 A16 and yesterday were hammered by Harrow Borough 1-4. Their next "interesting fixtures" are: Truro City 28/11 away; Taunton Town 5/12 and then just to keep in with the "Ts", Tiverton Town on May 8th. (these are for my West Country fan club).

The good news is that the Hepworth United FC U18s had a spanking 7-1 league win today at Gomersal and Cleckheaton FC. There are magical places all over the country that the Sky cameras never get to. Shame! You should have been there unless of course you are locked down.
