MAY DAY

On May 1st 1904, the first international match between two nations, outside Britain, was played when Belgium played France at a town called Uccle, located near Brussels. The match ended in a 3-3 draw which seemed appropriate! The first official international, ever, was played between Scotland v England on 30 November 1872. It ended 0-0 and was played @ Hamilton Crescent, Partick.

The first international between Scotland v Wales was played on 25th March 1876 resulting in a 4-0 home win @ Hamilton Park. 12th October 1902, Austria 5-0 Hungary the first official international played in continental Europe. On 1st of May 1904, Evence Coppee Trophy was played as Ireland hosted England and lost 0-13.

The Évence Coppée Trophy (players shown below) was a one-off competition comprising a single football match in 1904 between Belgium and France. Held at the Stade du Vivier d'Oie in Uccle, Belgium, the match ended in a 3–3 draw. The trophy was named after Évence Coppée, the Belgian patron who organised the match to promote Franco-Belgian Friendship. The game ended in a tie 3-3, the trophy itself was not awarded.

The Evence Coppee Trophy marked the debut between the French and Belgian national teams. It was also the first match between independent European countries and the third official international after Austria and Hungary and Hungary and Bohemia
