PECSI MUNKAS 1990

Never heard of this? Me neither! Following the Heysel Disaster at the 1985 European Cup Final, English clubs were banned (indefinitely) by UEFA from playing in Europe. BUT, this decision was changed in 1990-1 and things got back to "almost" normal. There would be no English representation in the European Cup (as the tournament was known then) and Liverpool had an additional two year ban (considering the club's involvement in 1985), later reduced to one!! Runners up, Aston Villa competed in the UEFA Cup while Man Utd played in the Cup Winners' Cup.

The first night was very successful for "the English" when Aston Villa beat Czech club, Banik Ostrava at Villa Park 3-1, while United beat Hungarians, Pesci Munkas** at Old Trafford 2-0. Clayton Blackmore for United after 10 minutes, being the first English club goal in European club competition since Kevin Sheedy scored the third goal in Everton's 3-1 victory over It was the final match of the 1984–85 European Cup Winners' Cup and the 25th European Cup Winners' Cup final. The final was held at Feijenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on 15 May 1985.

Everton won 3-1, goals Andy Gray, Trevor Steven and Kevin Sheedy.
