BARNET BEES v BRENTFORD BEES


Brentford FC, home of The Bees hosts the FA Cup 4th Round tie tonight.
Underhill was the home to Barnet FC from 1907. The club was founded in 1888 as New Barnet and Woodville FC, mainly from students of local Cowley College and Lyonsdown Collegiate. Known as The Hillmen, players for Barnet FC in Edgeware, now play in the National League 5th Tier.
In 1901 workers from the Alston Works that made dental materials, gave the club the nickname of The Dentals". After securing a home at Underhill, the club joined the Athenian League in 1912 and became known as Barnet FC in 1919, after the war.
In 1946 the first televised football was filmed live at Underhill in a match against Wealdstone. The TV showed 20 minutes of the first half and 35 of the second, until "it got too dark".
In 1947 Barnet FC played SingTao Sports FC from China, the first time a Chinese club had played in the UK. Barnet won 5-3.

The club was relegated from the Football League in 2017-18 having earned a place in the 4th Division of the Football League in 1991. Having won the Conference under Barry Fry's eccentric and effective management, the club quickly rose to the Second Division (3rd tier) of the FL by 1993.
The last game at Underhill took place against Wycombe Wanderers on April 20th 2013, Barnet winning 1-0.

The Hive, home to Barnet FC from the National League and London Bees FC, Ladies Football and also until 2013 London Broncos Rugby League club. The new stadium includes the Hive Bar with seating for 120 fans, a fitness centre and 44 acres of sports' facilities to accommodate the local community as well as the club's football academy, men, juniors and women.
Barnet FC.svgThe Barnet crest represents the Green Hill of High Barnet, the white and red roses to represent the Battle of Barnet in the War of the Roses and apiaries (bee hives) which were numerous in the area and note that Brentford FC nickname is also The Bees and Watford FC is The Hornets.
