Before 1904 the two met only in Division Two where they first met in October 13th 1894.
United joined the Football as Newton Heath in 1892 when it expanded to 16 clubs and they came bottom. The same happened in 1893-4 and "United" were relegated. Woolwich Arsenal joined the Football League (Division two) in 1893-4 season. So their first meeting was on October 13th 1894 in a 3-3 draw.

There have been 4 League Cup meetings too. a Champions League tie M win 4-1 over two legs, and a handful of Charity Shield season openers.
United 12 FA Cup wins. Arsenal 13! and they both been in the Final 20 times.
