The warm up for the 1986 World Cup Fnals included games v Scotland in the Rous Cup 2-1 (in this game Spurs' Gary Stevens came on as a sub, with Everton's Gary Stevens already on the pitch; the chant was there's only TWO Gary Stevens)
Warm up continued on tour with Mexico in Los Angeles 3-0, Canada in The Rous Cup in Vancouver 1-0.

Maradona did score twice after 51 minutes and 55'. The "Hand of God" goal which I suspect would never happen today with VAR etc?? He then did score one of the great individual goals with no England defender able to lay a tackle on him...actually his "hand of god" goal was quite special up to the cheating point!

Could Shilton have done better, like clatter Diego? here's Huh Jung-Moo of South Korea dishing it out in their Group game v Argentina (which they lost) but Moo made his mark. He was named Jindogae which means "hunter dog", appropriate for his role in man marking!
What about OUR pass back? Who was that?
Lineker scored one for us after 81': 1-2 Quarter-final lost.

It's worth remembering that England came runners up in the group behind Morocco, with whom we drew 0-0.
We beat Poland 3-0 with a hat trick from Lineker, momentous and then we lost to Portugal 0-1. This was the country's first defeat for 11games.
England's Goal Difference was 3-1 and Poland's 1-3 (all scored by Lineker!!! who was top goal scorer in the competition)....both had 3 points.
Lineker scored 17 goals in the next ten matches following his hat trick: 2,1,2,0,4 (v Spain in Madrid),0,0,1,1,3(this hat trick against Turkey 8-0 in the Euro Championships qualifiers at Wembley)
Morocco topped OUR group and had goals F3 A1 and 4 points.
Next up was the Second Round match against the might of Paraguay 3-0 (Lineker 2) and Beardlsey....then Diego.
We gained respect though.
