JANUARY 16th 1875 AND FLOWERS OF SCOTLAND

Queen's Park Football Club was founded on July 9th 1867, at a meeting of "Gentlemen" at number 3, Eglinton Terrace, in Glasgow. Nobody would have thought that the Scottish amatuers would survive for nearly 8 years before their team conceded a goal. Below QPFC 50th year (1917-18).

Playing in a 1-2-2-6 system, the club was utterly dominant in their early years, pressing other teams and remaining unbeaten. The club was invited to join in the English FA Cup in 1871 and although they didn't win the cup, their goal remained in tact, being given a bye to the semi-finals (to save the Scots from travelling too far!). In their first cup tie, they drew 0-0 with the eventual winners, The Wanderers. However the Scots couldn't afford to "stay" in London for the replay and so "scratched", heading home over the border.

They then "walked" the first ever Scottish Cup in 1873-4, winning over Dumbreck 7-0, Eastern Glasgow 1-0, Renton 2-0 and Clydesdale Glasgow 2-0.

In the following season's cup, they had wins over Western Glasgow 1-0 and West End Glasgow 7-0 before meeting in a March semi-final, Clydesdale. Before this tie, their proud record in the cup was ended against Vale of Leven, during a friendly at Hampden, which was abandoned with Vale, a goal up, disputed a "Queen's" equaliser and "stormed off" the pitch. So the "Invincible Aura" was gone and in the cup semi-final, Clydesdale became the first club to score two goals against Queen's. Queen's, however, salvaged a draw and won the replay and then the cup!

After a third successive Scottish Cup in 1876, Queen's finally were beaten in a competitive match in 1877, losing the quarter-final to Vale of Leven.

Queen's Park bounced back winning the Scottish Cup SEVEN more times between 1870 and 1893, a record only bettered by Rangers and Celtic!

In this season's Cup, 3rd Rd, Queen's Park beat Peterhead 0-3 away and play Inverness on the 21st away at 3pm, in the 4th Round.

In earlier Scottish FA Cup Preliminary Rounds, flowers might blossom!!!; Drumchapel Utd beat Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare 3-0; Linlithgow Rose beat St Cuthbert Wanderers 9-0; Burntisland Shipyard lost to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale 1-5; Dundonald Bluebell beat Tayport 3-1 and Hill of Beath Hawthorn beat Irvine Meadow 3-0 after a 1-1 draw (then lost to Elgin City 1-2) and of course, Partick Thistle 3-0 winners over Kelty Hearts Round 3, along with Montrose. Others include Dalkeith Thistle, Linlithgow Rose, Strathspey Thistle and Buckie Thistle: NEXT ROUND: Saturday!
