I am off to our Just Play session at the local pitch, Far lane, where hopefuly about 20 children of various ages will come along and just play! It is the "Huddersfield Fortnight" which means the works etc are on their holidays and everyone has gone to Scarborough. Well, that is what used to happen. More like Benidorm or Corfu these days, unless you are flying like this lot.
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/corfu-delay-manchester-airport-flight-11697370 then you just won't get there.
Then at 7.30 Hepworth United Open Age play their next pre-season warm up against Penistone Church (their reserves probably) as the 1st team played Stocksbridge who are a league or two above on the pyramid. I am heading that way.
The warm up will hopefully put the Church in good fettle to meet Cheadle Town in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round at the Memorial Ground. They join teams like Guernsey FC who take the FA Cup "abroad" for the first time ever as they host Thamesmead TFC, making this the competition's most southerly fixture.
If you want to get to Wembley early, then Wembley FC meet Daventry Town at Vale Farm. Or why not take in Graham Rix's side AFC Portchester who play in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division and have already earned play a league match worryingly losing to Horndean. They meet Fawley on Sunday in the Cup ko 3pm. Fawley as far as I can remember is full of oil tanks and tankers on the Solent. Wasn't Portchester Roy of Rovers' local rivals?? (I know somebody who will correct me on that fact).
Up for the Cup.
