A bizarre sending off occurred when Havant & Waterlooville hosted Dorchester Town in a Blue Square Conference South League game. It was interrupted by Alan Young, a home fan who invaded the pitch wearing a mankini , thankfully it was for a bet and not a fashion statement. The papers had a bonanza.
The invasion came to an abrupt end when Dorchester player-manager Ashley Vickers tackled the fan to the ground - but was then promptly sent off by the ref for violent conduct. "I'm dumbfounded and speechless" he said "I thought I was doing the referee a favour".
Ashley appealed against the sending off but the red card was upheld, although the three-match ban, he was due was dropped. The match was evenly poised at 1-1 when the incident happened and Ashley was sent off, but Dorchester sadly, lost the match 3-1. The invasion clearly upset the lads, as two more Dorchester players received red cards before the final whistle. No animals were used in this presentation and the words are researched from "Football Day by Day".
