WHERE ARE NOW?

Football On This Day - 15th July 2017

Following on from all the praise for our senior side, for almost getting there, here is some success from our 2017,England players which adds to the “hope for the future”.

England  had an U19 squad that was crowned champions of Europe and this title was won a month after England U20s had won the Under 20s World Cup.

The U19s had beaten Portugal 2-1 in Gori, Georgia, in the European Final. Second half goals from Easah Suliman (then of Aston Villa) and Man City’s, Nmecha were scored either side of an “own goal” by England’s Sterling…not Raheem. The last ten minutes were played without Tayo Edun (of Lincoln City) who received a second yellow in the 86th minute.

The squad included the following: Aaron Ramsdale in goal, of Bournemouth, Ben Brereton-Blackburn Rovers and is now apparently able to play for Chile! Dijon Sterling is with Chelsea, Jay Da Silva-Brentford and later Bristol City, Tayo Edun- Fulham and later Lincoln City, Easah Suliman-of Pakistani birth, played with Aston V and went out to Vitoria Guimaraes in Portugal, Issac Buckley Ricketts-released from Peterborough and presently playing in non-league Streford, Andre Dozzell-Ipswich and QPR, Mason Mount-Chelsea, who “made it”, so did Ryan Sessegnon-Fulham. Luka Nmecha-was with Man City but is now in Germany, Darnell Johnson- on loan to AFC Wimbledon nephew of Emile, Josh Da Silva-Arsenal, Marcus Edwards-Tottenham and manager Keith Downing-Cheltenham, WBA.

I suspect some of these have “moved on” but two things come to mind…1. There are some genuinely excellent young players still strutting their stuff at the moment and 2. Some fall off the perch quite quickly and are out there, but where?

Have a nice weekend.
