PSYCHO AND LYDNEY

If you like the idea of reading about Stuart Pearce then type into the search box his name and you should rattle up several pages relating to one of England's great "Icons!"

Stuart Pearce had a pretty decent playing career, begionning ast Wealdstone FC in 1981 and making over 570 League appearances, mainly for Nottingham Forest (401), but he also played for Coventry, Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester City. He scored 82 goals at this level. He won 78 England caps from 1987 to 1999, scoring 5. Arguably the highlight of his playing career came at the age of 53 and some 14 years after he played his last match in the Football League!!! Read below.....

He signed for non-leaguers Longford AFC (founded 1918), members of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division 2 and they were described as 'the worst team in the country'.

They had lost every match they had played in 2015/16, which included home defeats against Bibury (17-0) and Quedgeley Wanderers (15-0) and away loses at Lydney Town Reserves (16-0)  and Woolaston (14-0), The club was dubbed as "the worst in the UK", as they lost all their games at that date, with a single goal scored and 179 conceded and lying at the bottom of the Gloucester County Northern League Division Two, the 13th Tier of English Football. On 12 March, Pearce made his debut for Longford as a second-half substitute in a 1–0 loss against Wotton Rovers.

Stuart made his debut for them - in fact his only appearance for them - on Saturday 12th March 2016, as a second half sub against Wootton Rovers. Longford only lost that one 0-1 but it was against the second worse team in the division. After that 'Psycho' returned to footballing obscurity!

Today, all abilities are welcome, there are teams in Stroud Div 2 & 8, assuming that the club has survived Stuart's departure.
