JACKPOT!

4th July 2015, Do I resent Lottery jackpot winners? Of course not!! What about this? With a new Chelsea Manager in the news today......former Chelsea footballer also hit the "Jackpot", when he won £5,517,056 in the draw of 4th July 2015.  Terry Bradbury was a player from a different era. Although he played alongside Jimmy Greaves, Terry Venables and Peter Bonetti in the Chelsea side of the early 1960's - he later played for Southend, Leyton Orient, Wrexham and Chester - he said that he had never earned more than £25 a week from the game. So I am sure he enjoyed his good fortune!

Terence Eugene Bradbury, top right.. (born 15 November 1939) was an English former professional footballer, who played as a wing half. He began his career with Chelsea after having been capped by England Schoolboys on four occasions. He went on to make 29 appearances in the  for Chelsea in the First (top!) Division, before leaving for Southend United in September 1962, for about £6,000, after falling out with manager Tommy Docherty..nothing unusual about that then?

After four years of regular football at Southend's Roots Hall, Bradbury switched to Leyton Orient for 1966-7 and then moved to Wrexham in the summer of 1967. Bradbury was sent off on his league debut against Luton Town, but went on to establish himself as a favourite with Wrexham fans. In 1969, he joined local rivals, Chester, combining his playing duties, working as a coach. After leaving Chester in 1971, Bradbury worked as a player-coach at Weymouth and followed it up with a short-spell as player-manager at Northwich Victoria.

Away from football, Bradbury worked in the licensing trade, based in Derbyshire. In July 2015, The couple, who used to run a pub in Tideswell, Derbyshire, bought their Lottery ticket from WH Smith in Buxton. Bradbury won a prize of £5.5m on the National Lottery. Lucky chap!

Terry and his wife, Ann, spent some of their winnings on a villa in Spain (surprise!) – their favourite holiday destination – and where they both lived for almost six years. As grandparents, they used their Lucky Dip win to treat their families.

Ann said on winning, “The villa will be a place where our family can always go to for holidays. Looking after our sons and our nine grandchildren is something which is a priority for both of us. It is wonderful to think that none of our children will have a mortgage or any stress for the rest of their lives. This win provides our family with security and this is what pleases Terry and myself more than anything.”

Ann and Terry played Lotto every week and normally played with the same numbers but decided on their successful Saturday to change their numbers to a Lucky Dip. Terry revealed, “We just felt like a change, so threw two Lucky Dip lines on – and we are so glad we did."

The Mission of Terry Bradbury Foundation awards grants to support individuals and/or groups throughout the United Kingdom and the rest of the world at large, to reach beyond their normal scope of activities and undertake ambitious and creative productions.
