£19.82

Have a look at this till receipt from Tesco Manchester and you may notice the Total to Pay of £19.82. I could have had more in the shopping basket but enough is enough and so here is a tale.

On my way home, I was listening to the match at the Amex Stadium, Brighton and Hove Albion versus Manchester United. History was being made. It is the Seagulls first top flight campaign since 1983.

November 1982, was the last time that Brighton had played Manchester United at home, winning 1-0. The return game at Old Trafford was a draw in March 1983.

Later that year at Wembley, Albion, very much the under dogs played a 2-2 draw in the Cup Final and then on the 26th May, United walked home 4-0 in the replay.

On the 4th May 2018 Brighton surprised United with a 1-0 win in the Premier League. Important for the Seagulls and perhaps not so for United apparently, if their attitude has anything to go by.

Brighton and United first met each other in Manchester in 1909 in the FA Cup with United winning 1-0. They next time they met was 70 years later in October in Division One; United won 2-0.
The overall results are: Brighton Won 2 Drawn 5 Lost 12

United have lost to Huddersfield, Newcastle and Brighton and played league matches at the John Smiths, Wembley and the Amex for the first time. The Amex is the 58th PL ground that United have visited and the first time they have lost to three newly promoted teams in a season since 1989-90 and all away from home.
It was United's first defeat on a Friday since December 1978 v Bolton losing 0-3.
