A Brian Talbot goal gave Arsenal a 1-0 win over Liverpool in the 1980 FA Cup semi-final, a time when cup ties were not decided by penalties, but replays.
Talbot's 12th minute goal brought victory in the fourth match between the two at the attractive Highfield Road, Coventry.


The 4 programmes shown above, would surely be a collector's item.

The FA Cup Final occurred on May 10th at Wembley with George Courtney in charge. (Att 100,000)
Arsenal v West Ham Utd
Arsenal, the "Holder", was the first side to appear in three consecutive finals in the 20th Century.
Pat Rice the first player to appear in 5 finals for one club.
Paul Allen for West Ham was the youngest player to appear in a Cup Final at 17 years and 256 days.
Arsenal equalled Newcastle Utd's 11 appearances in the finals.

Rd 4: Arsenal beat Brighton at home 2-0.                                   Liverpool beat Nottm Forest a. 0-2.
Rd 5: Arsenal beat Bolton 3-0 at home after a 1-1 away.            Liverpool beat Bury 2-0.
Rd 6: Arsenal beat Watford* 1-2 at Vicarage Rd.                       Liverpool beat Tottenham away 0-1
*Watford had beaten Harlow Town 4-3 in R4! Just for info.
Semi-Finals:
Arsenal v Liverpool.........
12th April @ Hillsborough, 16th @ Villa Park, 28th @Villa Park, May 1st @Highfield Rd.
Arsenal and Liverpool had met in the longest Cup semi-final; 420 minutes overall:0-0, 1-1, 1-1, 1-0.

Elsewhere......
West Ham drew 1-1 with Everton at VP (90 minutes) and won away at Elland Rd 1-2 (90 mins).

West Ham's win was the third time a Second Division team had won the Final in 8 seasons. **(others??)
Trevor Brooking's goal, was the first time he had scored a goal with his head.
