PENNANT TAGGED

On April 2nd 2005, a first for English football, I think, was Jermaine Pennant wearing an "electronic tag" in a Football League match between his club of the moment, Birmingham City and Spurs at St Andrews.
Referee, Howard Webb, an ex-policeman, wasn't going to let him escape, as Pennant was serving 31 days of a 3 month jail sentence for a drink driving and lack of insurance. On loan from Arsenal, it was appropriate that he was unable to escape from the Spurs and his anklet. Get it?

Here's a starter for Jermaine's career ups and downs.

Following an uncomfortable childhood, he found solace at Notts County from around 1993 where he played youth and first team football. From County he was signed by Arsenal, Watford, Leeds, Birmingham City, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Real Zaragoza, Stoke, Wolves, FC Pune City (India), Wigan, Tampine Rovers (Singapore), Bury, Hibs and Billericay (2017). Where is he now?

He has been close to trouble throughout and even when selected to play for England U21s, he broke curfew under David Platt's managership and was sent off in a game for punching Croatia's Niko Kranjcar. Despite all this he has won 24 junior caps and is ranked 10th in most capped U21s. Mind you if your not good enough to play up a level, you might actually pick up a few "junior" caps in stead!

Pennant has also been collecting "arrests" as listed in the link, glamour girlfriends and losing them, a potential ram raid at his home in Cheshire, appearances on TV shows-Jeremy Kyle, Celebrity Big Brother and in 2018 he published an autobiography, "Mental: Bad Behaviour, Ugly Truths and the Beautiful Game".
