THE BEE "KEEPER" OF ALEPPO

Been to see this cultural film in Leeds today, so I just thought it would give me a theme, to see if Aleppo has a " footy team". NOT BRENTFORD!! (get it??) Bees? IT does!

The film by the way was "harrowing" at times but well made and I got a choc ice!

Aleppo, in Levant, with a population of 2 million, is the second city in Syria, having been inhabited since the sixth millennium BC. It wass occupied by Amorites by the latter part of the third millennium BC. Such a long history is attributed to its strategic location as a trading center between the Mediterranean Sea and Mesopotamia.

The city's significance in history has been its location at one end of the Silk Road, which passed through Central Asia and Mesopotamia. With an estimated population of 2,098,000 residents as of 2021, it is Syria's second largest city and also one of the largest cities in the Levant region.

Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously populated city in the world; it may have been inhabited since the sixth millennium BC.

Al-Ittihad Ahli of Aleppo Sports Club is a professional multi-sports' club, that has been affected by the nation's recent wars.
The club was founded on 20 January 1949 under the name Halab Al-Ahli Club, by the merge of three smaller football teams in Aleppo: Al-Janah (The Wing)Assad Al-Shahba (Lions of Shahba) and Al-Nejmeh (The Star), before getting recognized officially by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on 24 September 1953.

Being one of the most successful clubs (after Al-Jaish, Al-Karamah SC) in Syrian Football History, Al-Ittihad SC won six Syrian top league titles and ten Syrian Cups. Al-Ittihad is the only founding member of Syrian Premier League that has never been relegated from the top division since its debut in 1966
They play their home games at the Aleppo International Stadium since its inauguration in 2007. In Asia, their best performance was in 2010 when they became champions of the  Asian FC Cup competition.

Due to the reconstruction of the main Aleppo International Stadium, they are temporarily playing at the Al-Hamadaniah Stadium from 2021. The club has its own ground with a capacity of 10,000 spectators.

On 29 January 2017, Aleppo hosted the first national sports event since 2012, when the local football rivals Al-Ittihad SC Aleppo and Al-Hurriya SC played at the Ri'ayat-al-Shabab Stadium, within the Syrian Premier League; the top league of Syrian football.

In 2022, the Syrian General Sports Federation approved the club's name change to Al-Ittihad Ahli of Aleppo SC, inspired by the club's original name Halab Al-Ahli Club; following pleads by the fans to restore the club's original name.
