MILAN AND STEIN

FC Internazionale Milano was founded in 1908 and of course, is one of the greatest clubs in football. The club's origins lie in their great rivals, AC Milan, when it was known as Milan Football and Cricket Club. Some foreign members of the club were unhappy about the dominance of Italians in the football team and decided to make a move to form their own team, the their choice of name reflecting their open-to-all policy.

The club was the opposition when Jock Stein took Glasgow Celtic to the European Cup Final in 1967, the first British club to win the trophy and on this day Stein was given the manager's job at Celtic Park. When he took over the club had gone eight years without a trophy, but he won Celtic the Scottish Cup in his first season and continue the successful run with 11 league titles (including nine consecutively between 1964-74) and a hatful of cups in his thirteen years at the Scottish club.

Celtic appointed Stein to coach their Reserve team after he retired as a player. Stein started his managerial career in 1960 with Dunfermline, where he won the Scottish Cup in 1961 and achieved some notable results in European football. After a brief but successful spell at Hibernian, Stein returned to Celtic as manager in March 1965. In thirteen years at Celtic, Stein won the European Cup, ten Scottish League Championships, eight Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups. After a brief stint with Leeds United*, Stein managed the Scottish National team from 1978 until his death in 1985.

*worth looking up his short stay at Leeds and why he moved on!
