On September the 9th, 1981. Ray Clemence, Neal, Keegan and McDermott were all in the England team that lost away to NORWAYin Oslo! The defeat prompted one of he very famous and "embarassing" pieces of
radio commentary ever, from the Norwegian presenter,
Bjorge Lillelien, who went beserk screaming down his microphone; "Lord Nelson! Lord Beaverbrook! Sir Winston Churchill! Sir Anthony Eden! Lady Diana! Clement Attlee! Henry Cooper! Maggie Thatcher!...can you hear me? Maggie Thatcher!! Your "boys" took a hell of a beating. Your boys took one hell of a beating!!"

On October 15th England had lost a World Cup qualifier to Romania 1-2 in Bucharest, Woodcock scored ours. On April 29th England drew 0-0 with Romania atWembley, 62,500 watched this, however, despite this poor effort!! England did qualify for the WC Finals in Spain, coming runners up their group, behind Hungary and above Romania, the Swiss and Norway. Paul Mariner scored the vital goal at Wembley, to be beat Group toppers, Hungary, 1-0, on November 18th.
