Carlisle Airport opens today and planes fly from this new hub for the first time to various points in the UK, especially Southend. Luckily, the newest airport in Europe got me going, noting that it was allowing better access from and to the "remote" north-west. Possibly for football teams heading that way?....sadly there aren't not too many football destinations now that Football League clubs, Workington and Barrow have gone Non-League.
Then I noted that a Lottery winner, Terry Bradbury, who won £5,517,056 on this day in 2015; he is pictured, above.
Terry once an England Schoolboy international, earned £25 a week as a professional footballer playing alongside Jimmy Greaves, Terry Venables and Peter Bonetti when a youngster at Chelsea (29 apps) in the 1960s. He fell out with manager Tommy Docherty and was sold for £6000. He then went on to Southend Utd for 4 years (161 apps), Leyton Orient, Wrexham (78) and Chester(90); sadly not heading north to Carlisle...probably no airport then!
Terry had a short spell at Weymouth Town and Northwich Victoria where he managed briefly in 1972-3.
After that he went into the "licensing trade"ie pub keeper. Born in 1939, he is still going! along with Ann and his windfall.
