GOOD DAY OUT
It has been another testing Brexit Day, with a journey to Rennes, trying out car, train and bus journeys into the Roazhon Park Stadium taking up two seats of its nearly 30,000 capacity. Ticket master Bill found us front top tier seats virtually on half way where we saw Patrick Vieira's Nice beat the home team 1-2.
The ground was very modern, the lavatorials disgraceful and we took no part in any refreshment, queue's were too long. The pre-match entertainment was lively, with huge flags, young fans as mascots, fireworks (well, two flashes) and a wonderful rendition of the Welsh national anthem to secure the Celtic links

Below is the River Vilaine. The drains may be clogged by river debris.
Goals came from Rennes' Walter Benitez after 25 minutes; the supportive crowd, many topless, were hoping for another few points to maintain their good start to the season. Wylan Cyprien equalised after 63 minutes and in 90+2 (there were 5 added minutes which seemed under generous considering the amount of rolling around that both teams seemed to perform when ever there was a fruity tackle) Coly won the game for the visitors. The cool Vieira barely flinched!
Here are the chaps of Stade Rennais in 1904, forming an official side that originally began in 1901 as a bunch of students, just having a game of footy. The club joined the Bretagne League and won their first derby with FC Rennais 4-0.
The two clubs eventually merged to form Stade Rennais Universite FC. Stade's main rivals were the well established St Malo who were regional champions, but by 1908 Stade Rennais beat them under the management of Welshman, Arthur Griffiths. The anthem clearly having its effect. We heard it today and how roused were we!
I suggest you widen your knowledge of Heraldry, by reading a little about the coat of arms of the Duchy of Brittany!
