As a Spurs fan I am determined not to get too disgruntled by the hammering Tottenham took last night. Remember it's a league, so there's hope! The Spurs have created records of course, including this result being the largest home defeat by an English club in Europe. But there's more:
In July 1995 Tottenham succumbed to FC Koln in the Intertoto Cup 0-8.
In October 1976 Derby thumped Spurs 2-8 in the League Div 1.
In September 1978 Liverpool created a record away win by scoring 7 past Spurs with no reply.
In December 1996 in the Premier League Newcastle Utd beat Spurs 7-1 and
on 23rd December 1999 the Magpies also stuck 6 past Spurs in an FA Cup tie.
In 1993 Sheffield Utd beat them 0-6 and so did Manchester City on 24th November 1913.
There are also record home defeats of 0-6 by Sunderland on 19th December 1914 and Arsenal 6/3/1995.
BUT don't blame the Spurs for all European humiliations:
Remember these assorted European shockers?
Bayern Munich 5-1 v Arsenal 2017 and 1-5 in the return although Arsenal led 1-0 at half time.
Porto 5-0 Leicester City 2016
Bayern M 5-1 Arsenal 2015
Liverpool 0-3 Real Madrid 2014
Arsenal 0-3 Inter Milan 2003
Newcastle U 1-4 Inter Milan 2002 first goal concede after 65 seconds, Bellamy sent off after 5 minutes.
Barcelona 5-1 Chelsea; Chelsea had a 3-1 advantage from the first leg.
Real Madrid 5-1 Derby after Derby leading 4-1 in first leg
Ajax 5-1 Liverpool.
