NEW ERA FOR HARROGATE TOWN AND BARROW

Just in case you hadn't noticed, Harrogate Town, founded in 1914 as Harrogate AFC (but only got going in 1919 due to the war), were 2nd in National League last season and have made the step up into Football League 2, despite the COVID start to the season.
Today they travel to Southend United for their first league game. The link below will take you to a documentary (and script) about the journey for Town from the National League to Football League 2: AS I WRITE, 3.44pm THEY ARE 2-0 UP AT SOUTHEND!

Their pre-season has involved games away to a Middlesbrough U23s (won  0-2), Brighouse Town 0-0, Sunderland away lost 1-0, Tranmere Rovers  1-1 away and away to Grimsby Town 2-2. All travelling away awaiting their new pitch to grow grass. Their 4G had to be torn up when they joined the FL! An expense before they play a game with the big boys.

On October 17th Town host AFC Barrow (1st in National League), fellow new boys in League 2. The CNG Stadium holds 3,800. Barrow, who previously were Football League members (from 1921-2 as founder members of the new Division 3 North), were not re-elected to the FLeague in 1971-2. They joined the Northern Premier League and won the FA Trophy at the Old Wembley in 1990 and won the same Trophy at the New Wembley in 2010. The first club to do this "double". Founded in 1901, their ground, Holker Street, holds around 5,000. Nice badge.....read the blogs to find out about it....
