18th AUGUST 1979 After 11 League matches at the end of the 1978/79 season without letting in a goal, Reading and their goalkeeper Steve Death (right) conceded the first goal in 1103 minutes of League football in the opening day of Division 3, a 2-2 draw with Brentford at Elm Park. Ironically it was an own-goal from Reading defender Stewart Henderson (left).

AND ON THE SAME DAY IN 1987
Liverpool’s first home match of the season – against Charlton – was postponed after the collapse of a Victorian sewer under the Kop. Their next two scheduled home matches suffered the same fate but it didn’t cause Liverpool much of a problem – they were unbeaten in their first 29 League matches of the season and comfortably won the League championship. Apologies for technical overlap below!!

* Liverpool's FA Cup Semi-Final against Nottingham Forest was played at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday FC.

Liverpool's first three scheduled home League matches of the season - against Charlton on Tuesday August 18th, Derby on Saturday August 22nd and Watford on Monday August 31st - were all postponed to allow repairs to be made to a collapsed Victorian sewer under the Kop
