The FA Cup (Third Qualifying Rd) brings much joy to Non-League teams and gives these clubs a little publicity, even on National Television. I gathered some data this afternoon from the SKY Sports Coverage. The game is between the home club: Anstey Nomads vs Shefford Town & Campton FC at the Callingtons Community Complex at Cropston Road, Anstey, Leicestershire, LE7 7BP. The reason why there was a an early kick off was the accommodate a Wedding Reception in the clubhouse, booked a while back and before the club realised they were going to be committed to playing in the oldest football cup competition in the world! The Chairmen put heads together and decided to kick off early. All's well that ends with, the Nomads scorching a 5-0 win and by all accounts, the wedding reception is being enjoyed by all. That looks like a swift?
News of wedding reception below!
Nomads play in the Uhlsport United Counties League, Premier Division North. Some of their opponents include beautifully named: Newark FC, Holbeach Utd, Sleaford Town (I doubt that David Charlton is reading this!) Leicester Nivarna FC (I doubt that Jerry Wallwork is reading this?), Quorn FC (where?), Loughborough Students FC (any old students?), Skegness Town (Pat Francis??) and Eastwood CFC (Robin Hood?).
After relegation in 1990, Shefford Town folded in 1994. The town remained without a senior football team until 2009, when the club was reformed. In 2010 Shefford Town merged with near neighbours Campton and is located in Bedfordshire and plays in the Spartan South Midlands Prem.
The club has had success both on and off the pitch in recent years since its reformation, the club were crowned Bedfordshire County Premier Division Winners in 2011–12, 2017–18 and 2018–19. It also runs a host of junior teams both male and female.
Next week is the FA Vase and more cup excitement as Shefford play Leighton Town. In the 103 fixtures for this year's tournament...no sign of Anstey Nomads!
