DONNY AND THE POOL

Liverpool had a bit of a scare on January 5th 1974, when Third Division, Doncaster Rovers, held them to a draw, 2-2 at Anfield, in a Third Round FA Cup tie. Liverpool's. Kevin Keegan snagged two goals against his old club, to save some embarrassment. Donny nearly snatched an historic shock, when they hit the post in a final minute, but they earned the replay at their's, which Liverpool duly won 0-2.

Liverpool went on to beat Carlisle Utd 0-2 after a 0-0 at Anfield, then a home 2-0 win v Ipswich. Next came a 0-1 win away at Bristol City in the Quarter-finals and a 3-1 win following a 0-0 draw both at "neutral grounds. Pool beat Newcastle 3-0 in a one sided final.

In the year 2000, the FIFA World Cup Championship was being played and whilst invitations seemed to be handed out "randomly", though Manchester United, represented Europe as reigning European Champions and Intercontinental Cup holders. Real Madrid featured as Intercontinental Cup winners from 1998! Vasco da Gama were there too as South American champions and the hosts, Corinthians, the 1999 Brazilian League Champions were there too. Why not? FIFA pleases itself.

Real Madrid won the first round match 3-1 against Asian Super Cup winners, Al Nassr. Manchester United crashed out in the first round, beating only South Melbourne, Oceania champions. They had opted out of the FA Cup that season, so they could take part in this "event". United were "bowing" to the FA, who wanted England to be up front with this competition, to help the nation's bid to host the 2006 World Cup, (an effort that failed!).

The FIFA World Club Cup Championship was "put into strorage" until 2005, playing for the FIFA World Club Cup.

On December 20th Manchester City representing UEFA beat Fluminese 4-0 in the 2023 Final, held in Saudi Arabia.
