In 1940, on this day, the Arsenal FC made their debut in the "silver screen" when the Arsenal Stadium Mystery was released, a film involving Manager George Allison and several players including Cliff Bastin and Eddie Hapgood; the film involved a "poisoning" of a rival player during a "friendly" match between Arsenal and The Trojans, a "fictional amateur club". Match action was provided for the film when Arsenal took on Brentford in the last game of the 1938-9 season. It proved to be final game of the "Gunners' "season before World War II broke out.
