Sir Alex and Ruud

In 1990 on May 17th, Sir Alex Ferguson's reign at Manchester United was looking under threat because in four years he had won nothing with the club and the hans were beginning to lost patience. On May 17th, Sir Alex silenced the doubters by winning the FA Cup Final beating Crystal Palace 1-0 after a 3-3 draw. Lee Martin scored, winning the "first" trophy for Fergie, probably saving his job.

On May the 17th in 1997 , Ruud Gullit became the first foreign manager to win the FA Cup when his Chelsea team beat Middlesbrough 2-0, who were playing in their first Final ever. Goals from Robert Di Matteo and Eddie Newton sealed Chelsea's first FA Cup victory for 27 years.

Chelsea had beaten West Bromich Albion 3-0, Liverpool 4-2, Leicester City 1-0 after a 2-2 draw away, Portsmouth 1-4 away and Wimbledon 3-0. 

Middlesbrough had won through Chester 6-0, Hednesford Town 3-2 both at home, 1-2 away at Manchester City, 0-2 away at Derby County and 3-0 against Chesterfield in the semi-final following a 3-3 draw.
