Arsene Wengner's French Revolution at Arsenal began to pay dividends on this day in 1998, when The Gunners defeated Newcastle United at Wembley in the FA Cup Final, with goals from Marc Overmars and Nicolas Anelka. The victory meant the Gunners had secured their second league and cup double after Wengner became the first foreign manager to win the League in just his second season at Highbury.
Liverpool had a French Revolution of their own in 1998 when they brought in Gerard Houllier as manager. On this day at Anfield in 2001 the home club completed a unique treble when they beat Alaves of Spain 5-4, in the thrilling UEFA Cup Final. Earlier in the season they had beaten Birmingham City to win the League Cup and had snatched the FA Cup Final from the "jaws of defeat", against Arsenal just four days earlier when Michael Owen scored twice in the "late" minutes of the game, after the Gunners had dominated the game. Can you name them?
