PARRAMORE, CHURCH AND GLAVIN

It has been one of those days. Test match excitement this morning, English Football League opening day with a 12.30 match (Sunderland v Charlton) and then later the 5.30 game with Sheffield Uutd v Swansea; in between I nipped down to Worksop to find Handsworth Parramore FC, a Step 5 club playing Penistone Church FC in the North East Counties Premier League.

Handsworth FC once of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Premier ( a league Hepworth United now play in) and Worksop Parramore (founded 1936) of the NECL Premier, merged to play in the NECL Prem in 2013-14.
Their reserves fill the space left in the S&H CFA.
The first team play at Sandy Lane, Worksop and the other teams host at Oliver's mount in Handsworth.

Parramore? Well it comes from F. Parramore's Iron Founders (good geography on the edge of Sheffield) and the name has done a bit of travelling. There was time when the club played at the Don Valley Stadium, inside the track! They now a nicely set at Sandy Lane where a wealthy owner bought the land and developed the two clubs. It was a very pleasant experience with all "mod cons" and PCFC were second best to the Ambers on the day.

There is another ground at Oliver's Mount, Handsworth where the reserves and youths play.

Before you drop off to sleep, let me say that Ronnie Glavin was at the game. His son plays for PCFC and Scottish Ronnie was a legend at Barnsley and played for the Tykes over 180 games (73 goals) during the 1980s. He managed Worksop Town 2003-7 and won one Scottish cap v Sweden in 1977. Nice man, good lad. Church lost.
