Group A kicks off the 2022 Euro with hosts England (ranked 8th in FIFA) entertaining Austria (rank 21st) @ Old Trafford on July 6th at 8pm.

England, coached by Sarina Wiegman, have reached the semi-finals as their best effort so far in EURO history; founded in 1982. In their group are also Norway (11th) and Northern Ireland (lowest at 47th). Captain Lucy Bronze is their "lead" player who at 30 has just signed a contract with Barcelona and she is regarded as one the most famous woman footballers on the Planet.  She has been awarded FIFA's Best Women's Player and has won the Women's Champions' League three times with Lyon.

Top FIFA ranks in tourney are: Sweden 2nd, France 3rd, Netherlands 4th, Germany 5th, Spain 7th.         (USA Rank 1 of course and Canada 6th)

England's ties are: v Norway July 11th @ Brighton 8pm: Northern Ireland v @ Southampton July 15 8pm 

Past Winners: 1984 Sweden beat England on pens, 1987 Norway (England 4th),  1989 West Germany,  1991 Germany, 1993 Norway,  1995 Germany (England 3rd=), 1997 Germany, 2001 Germany,  2005 Germany when England were hosts,  2009 Germany with England as runners up, 2013 Germany 2017 Netherlands are current champions, England 3rd with Austria.
