Velden, based in the town of Velden Am Wörther See, literally means “Velden – it’s worth seeing”. ( The iconography of the club’s badge depicts the oldest and most famous building in the town, the fish hatchery. Often, halfway through a bleak day with no hope of anything interesting happening, a German will turn from his macrame and say to his fellow: “This would be a good day to visit the Velden Fish Hatchery.” Austria can be very exciting The lotus plant in the foreground suggests the third Duke of Velden, who travelled extensively in the 17th century and brought back many things from the Far East, including rare botanicals and Chinese syphilis. The Duke was of a volatile temperament and participated in several duels, all of which he won through the simple expedient of asking his opponent, just before they paced away, what size gloves he took. Every man he shot was still working on an answer as the Duke climbed back into his carriage. Thanks to Cameron Carter
