HAPPY HARRY AND ALAN!

Harry Redknapp's managerial career very nearly came to a grinding halt at the first hurdle on December 18th 1982, when he took charge of his first match at Bournemouth, as caretaker manager, for a Third Division game, away against Lincoln City, who were doing rather well themselves. Harry's team lost 9-0, in front of 3,597 spectators and asked if he was disappointed with the result,  Harry said "Yes, I thought the seventh goal was offside."

In the return Division 3 match on April 23 1983, Harry clearly had had his influence on the South coast, as the club won the game 1-0 , in front of a home crowd of over 5,000. Redknapp also helped Bournemouth avoid relegation to the Fourth Division. Bournemouth caused a shock in the FA Cup when they defeated holders Manchester United 2–0 in the Third Round.

He led Bournemouth to victory in the inaugural Associate Members' Cup Final, 1984, by beating Hull City 2-1 at Hull's ground, Boothferrry Park, on May 24th in front of just over 6,000.  This trophy was for teams from the Third and Fourth Divisions.

Another "wheeler dealer", Sir Alan Sugar, announced that he was fed up with firing managers and was putting his 40% investment into Spurs up for sale; share prices shot up 11%. Sugar was sweetened even more when the ENIC Leisure Group took up the sale.
