A STRONG WIND BLOWS NO GOOD

Storm Ciara reeked havoc through out the country at the weekend and matches were either called off or continued with chaos under both circumstances.

On Saturday, the flat land of Cambridgeshire (part of The Fens), was subjected to gale force winds and on Sunday with heavy rain and hail added, Wisbech Town FC's ground came under stress.

The club's Elgood's Brewery, Fenland Stadium north stand was wrecked a day after their BetVictor Northern Premier League, South-east, Division One 0-1 loss to Carlton Town.
It was fortunate that this damage didn't happen a day earlier, with a crowd of 234 inside the stadium. At the other end of the pitch, the South stand was more aero-dynamic (wind blowing around it) and survived the batttering. The ground's record attendance is over 8,000 against Peterborough United in a Midland League match in 1957. The Posh rose to the Football League in 1960.

This has happened during the club's Centenary Year! Celebrations might have to help fund the recovery of the ground facilities which are estimated at £20,000. The 10 year old stand was completed twisted! The club spokesman, ironically, John Fairweather, said, "We  are already talking about getting the TalkSport crew in to play a charity game...Alan Brazil, Jamie O'Hara, The Romford Pele......."

They may need more than that to cheer them up, as the club is comfortably bottom of their division, at the moment.

It could be worse? This is Tadcaster Albion. As far as I know there have not been any other disasters over the weekend although, I was at Salford City who entertained us with a 0-0 draw against Crawley Town-a bore draw.
