DIRTY OLD TOWN v NEW TOWN

You should know about Salford City FC by now, if you read my blog regularly and the involvement of the "Class of '92", the TV documentary, actually not much else, but the club is in the Football League, so fair do's to them and the various investments. Their home song is "Dirty Old Town"

Here are two blogs from previous...the mention of Sir Alex must draw you to reading these.

Today I went with the "Chief Executive" of the Independent Schools' FA, who was out to complete his 92nd visits to clubs in the FL. Well, what a game this was at the Peninsular Stadium, Salford!!!!!  play Crawley Town. Their nickname could have been a "red rag" to the BULL and their club song might have something to do with the town being one of the Greater London post war New Towns...?

THE MOTO MEANS "DON'T QUIT"
Salford's from the city coat of arms is:  Salus Populi Suprema Lex: The Welfare of the People is the Highest Law... so meaningful then.......

0-0 says it all. A strong wind, perfect pitch, decent gruel, 4 coach loads from the South east London "New Town" and a lively home crowd presented the opportunity for a cracking day. NO!
Terrible game, no controversy, no chips, a brisk walk with my colleague and a metro and car, journey home. But fair comment, both clubs were "nowhere" a decade ago and they have raised the bar to be in League Two.

For a quick Pret lunch at Manchester Piccadilly Station, £5 concession entry, £3 programme (good value), and obviously the train journey...it was a good experience, though I would probably have benefited more by watching England beat the Jocks in rugby on their own turf, on TV. Hey ho, it's all entertainment.

Crawley, founded in 1896, worked their way from the West Sussex League tyo county standard and beyond , before they  the Football League in 2010-11 and even elevated to League One having only gone professional in 2005. They were relegated to League Two in 2015.

Salford's history is documented in the previous blogs. Their most recent game history is here:
Salford 0-0 Crawley
Salford 20 shots: Crawley 3
On target 8:2
Possession 60:40
Passing Accuracy 62%: 41
Corners 8:3
