4th of the 5th = 20

On May 4th 1935, it was Exeter City's last game of the season in the Third Division South. Playing at home at St James' Park against Aldershot, Exeter were nicely poised at 0-0 by half time. It all seemed a gentle end to the season. By full time Exeter had scored 8 and Aldershot 1. Exeter finished 11th out of 22 and Aldershot 18th. Other 3rd division opposition for the two clubs included Crystal Palace, Clapton Orient, Torquay (who came 10th) and Bournemouth (17th).
Accrington Stanley playing in the Third Division North had a reserve team, of course, and an aspiring centre-forward, Allan Duckworth, made his first team debut in the Accies last game of the 1934/5 season. Playing against northern rivals, Barrow, who finished 17th, Duckworth scored after 4 minutes. Accrington eventually won, finishing 18th, avoiding falling into the relegation zone by one point and Duckworth was carried off the field 20 minutes into the game with a knee injury. He also suffered a dislocated shoulder in the game, retired and never played again. Below Accrington High Street.
It was Peter Shilton's Leicester City debut on this day in 1966 and he kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 defeat of Everton. It was the start of a long career that extended to 1005 appearances in the league and 125 caps for his country.

It is Ces Fabregas' birthday today. Born 1987 in Arenys de Mar, Barcelona Province.
