OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW......WEMBLEY

May 12th 2007 saw the New Wembley host the FA Trophy Final, with over 53,000 watching Stevenage Borough (5 syllables) beat Kidderminster Harriers (7 syllables) 3-2 in an exciting contest. Borough's captain Ronnie Henry climbed the 107 steps to the new Royal Box where he lifted the trophy towards his team's "adoring" fans. The stadium was "opened" on March 9th 2007.

James Constable of Kidderminster was the first player to score at the new stadium in a final.
Jeff Kenna of Kidderminster was one of two players (see below) to play at both the old and new stadia in Finals.
Borough, of course, were the first club to win at the new Wembley and
their player, ex-England international, Steve Guppy won finals at both the old stadium with Leicester City and Wycombe Wanderers and then with Borough at the new one.
Henry was the first captain to lift a trophy at the new stadium.
7 days later, with 89,826 watching the First FA Cup Final at the New Wembley, Chelsea beat Manchester United 1-0, in a less exciting contest. Remember that the first ever final at Wembley, was in 1923 with Bolton Wanderers taking on West Ham United  and beating them 3-2 on April 28th in front of 120,000+.

On May 12th 1979 in the FA Cup Final, at the old Wembley,  Arsenal led Manchester Utd 2-0 with goals from Brian Talbot and Frank Stapleton with 4 minutes to go....Then with 115 seconds on the clock,  Gordon McQueen scores for United....then Sammy McIlroy equalises leaving Liam Brady, the Man of the Match, to set up Alan Sunderland to score the winner for the Gunners...it was the FIVE MINUTE FINAL. 3-2.
How many left before the end?
