THE LAW MAN

24th February 1940......Law was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, to George Law, a fisherman, and his wife, Robina; he was the youngest of seven children, four boys and three girls. The Law family were not well off and lived in a council tenement flat at Printfield Terrace in Woodside. He went barefoot until he was 12 years old and wore handed-down shoes throughout his adolescence; his first pair of football boots came as a second-hand birthday present from a neighbour, which he received as a teenager.  In the 1954-5 season, he was spotted by Archie Beattie, a scout for Huddersfield Town, who invited 14-year-old Law to go for a trial. When he got there, the manager said, "The boy's a freak. Never did I see a less likely football prospect – weak, puny and bespectacled." However, to Law's surprise, they signed him on 3 April 1955. While he was at Huddersfield, he had an operation to correct his squint, which greatly enhanced his self-confidence.

*Club domestic league appearances and goals
Denis Law played his first match in the Football League for Huddersfield Town in 1956 and went on to score 16 goals in his 81 League appearances for the Terriers. OK not a lot but he was a distraction!!

Despite interest from Bill Shankly at Liverpool and Matt Busby at Manchester United, the Scottish international hit the headlines when on 15th March, 1960, he joined Manchester City. The £55,000 City paid for Law was then the record transfer fee paid by an English club. He spent little more than a year at Manchester City before moving to Torino for double the transfer fee City had paid. He then moved to Manchester United where he spent the most successful years of his career before ending his playing days back at Maine Road. His last game in the Football League was for Manchester City and would prove to be one of the most famous - and saddest - games of his career........
The quality is not great but you know what's going:

If you have not been to the NFM then do visit it in the building first built for Urbis-a celebration of Urban Developments-a good half day!

Sports' artist Paul Trevillion designed the new Plaques (see him with Denis), Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, was there, as were Mike Summerbee, Gordon Taylor (PFA) and Walk of Fame CEO Dave Courtney.
Jimmy Greaves' son accepted the plaque on his dad's behalf.
Three other heroes were "plaqued", Eusebio, Maldini and di Stefano.
