Dennis Viollet was one of the lucky ones, surviving the Munich Air Crash that destroyed the "Busby Babes", Manchester United's emerging youthful squad, flying home from a European game in Germany.
Bobby Charlton, another well known survivor, was knighted for his part in England's World Cup win in 1966. On this day in 2000, the Queen honoured the five "forgotten" members of the England team that played at Wembley on that famous day; Nobby Stiles, Alan Ball, Roger Hunt, Ray Wilson, George Cohen who all received MBEs at Buckingham Palace.
