THE ONLY MAN TO CAPTAIN ENGLAND AT FOOTBALL AND CRICKET

Since it is March, I thought a couple of March anniversaries might amuse you. Here is the first one advertising Ladies Football...I'm a bit late finding it but it's worth publishing.

The second one is more accurate featuring Reginald Erskine 'Tip' Foster, who captained England in his international debut against Wales on March 26th 1900. They drew 1-1.

As a Corinthian footballer, he had a fine pedigree and the following year, Reginald was named one of Wisden's Cricketers of the Year. He made his test debut against Australia in Sydney in 1903-4, scoring 287 runs, the highest for a debutant. He soon acquired the captaincy of England in 1907 for the "rubber" against South Africa, but business commitments prevented him from leading England in Australia the following winter. His last match was on August 19th.
He played five times for England at football and captained his team against Wales on March 3rd 1902. This ended goalness (0-0) in from of a 10,000 strong crowd. Reginald played eight tests for England before he died from diabetes on May 13th 1914, aged just 36.
