COMMUNITY

The season begins! Bale still in limbo, Barnsley get a win yesterday, Bolton did play but lost 0-2 and with Bury (match postponed) are minus 12 points (administration), Brentford lose to Birmingham 0-1, only one B in League Two and then there are Blackpool 2 v Bristol Rovers 0 and Burton who lost to Ipswich 0-1.

Got that out of my system! The Community Shield, once the Charity Shield was first played for in 1908 and is played for today. Its history is explained in these two links, which I hope you will be able to get into.

The proceeds from the day's gate and programmes on the day go to each of the Charities of the 124 clubs that get to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup and to FA National Charity Partners.

Of course Martin Atkinson from WEST YORKSHIRE is with the whistle. City are the holders and they have won the Shield 5 times. Man U 21, Arsenal 15 and Liverpool 15.
