15th JUNE SCOTLAND v ENGLAND 1996
https://baileyfootballblog.blogspot.com/2019/06/dentist-chair.html
I am repeating this day from my blog 2019 (reporting on a game in 1996), because it is Scotland v England (at Wembley). The link tells all.
This was at the European Championships held in England.
The Championships began with a drawn tie with Switzerland 1-1 (Shearer) in Wembley, then England met the Scots 2-0 I(Shearer and Gascoigne (that goal)) and the dentist chair.

JUST watch the run by Gascoigne prior to the goal....3rd man run!
THEN the best ever beating Holland 4-1 (Shearer and Sheringham 2 each)
Of course England went on to reach the ***Quarter-finals, beating Spain 0-0 and aet 4-2 on pens. on June 22nd
Then in the Semi-finals losing to the Germans after 1-1, aet and on penalties 5-6 on June 26th. Remember that?
Team v Germany: Seaman, Ince, Pearce, Platt, Aams, Southgate, Anderton, Gazza, Shearer, Sheringham, McManaman.
Prior to this in Friendlies, England had beaten Bulgaria at home, drawn with Croatia at home, beaten Hungary 3-0 at home and then beat China 3-0 in Beijing.
In September 1996 there were World Cup Qualifiers:
England played Moldova in Chisnau 3-0, Poland 2-1 at Wembley and Georgia 2-0 in Tblisi.
In 1996 Shearer contributed 8 goals out of 22 (not including pens).
Gascoigne 3, Sheringham 3, Barmby 3, Les Ferdinand 2, Anderton 2 (both against Hungary), Platt 1,
Names to conjour with: Hinchcliffe, Ehiogu, Wilcox, Lee, Stone all earned caps in this period.
Can you name the England managers in this period?
