It was a goal, the game should have been at least 1-0 to Sheffield United and Hawkeye had to offer an "unreserved apology" to The Blades, who may be affected by this loss of points, when it comes to the final show down later this season. It could be worth £££s to one or other team. I suppose you can argue "swings and roundabouts" but not with all that money at stake and technology.
Swings and roundabouts? In 1966 there was Geoff Hurst's goal that won him a World Cup Final hat trick and a golden trophy for his two West Ham mates and the rest of Alf Ramsey's team.

We never considered how the Germans felt did we? No technology part from the TV?
World Cup again, this time in South Africa 2010, yes and Germany. Frank Lampard's wonderful goal in the last 16 of the tournament, when England were trailing 1-2 at half time. Linesman?...who was not in line, no VAR, plenty of TV recordings (not used obviously). No idea what would have happened next, but there is a thing called "momentum" in sport and England had it at the time. They lost 1-4.

Luis Garcia, Liverpool v Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final, scored a ghost goal that seemingly did not cross the line but was given and led to a 1-0 win, sending The Reds to Istanbul and that famous recovery from 0-3 down against AC Milan.
Try this one: Watford v Reading in 2008

Finally, in a school U18 game at Douai Abbey, a Catholic School near Reading, my team was playing quite well in a mid week friendly and I was standing on the touchline, near our right back, alongside a handful on Monks....yep, serious Catholics schoolmasters, in habits, chatting about the game. (I was not in habit...)
The Douai team, in their yellow and black shirts, attacked down their left, in front of me and sent a ball into the final third. One of their lads shot along the ground from just outside the penalty area. The ball went goalward, on the ground, hitting the near post side netting and went into the goal through a hole in the back of that "triangle". Our keeper (honest lad) who had covered the shot let it go and then retrieved the ball from inside the goal and put it down for a goalkick.
Ref gave a goal! and insisted on the ball going to the centre circle. This all took a few minutes....I turned to the monks and was about to have a chat about it........they had gone, scurrying off to Vespers maybe!
I strolled round to our goal and found the hole in the net, which I started to repair with a few loose strings, when their ref asked me to return to the half way line...I pointed out the net issue....not interested. We won in the end. Sadly no video footage....
