BECKHAM, KING, DEVLIN, MESSI

December 9th 1999, David Beckham was banned from driving for 8 months and fined £800 at Stockport Magistrates Court for driving his Ferrari, wirth £160,000 at 76 mph in a 50mph zone on the A40 in West London. He later won an appeal, in January, against the ban saying that he was trying to escape a paparazzi photographer, although the conviction and fine stood. He eventually escaped punishment for speeding in his £160,000 Bentley because the police letter about the charge got lost in the post.

Beckham hired top lawyer Nick 'Mr Loophole' Freeman to help him beat the charge, successfully arguing that the Met's Notice of Intended Prosecution had not arrived within the 14-day time limit. At Wimbledon magistrates court, District Judge Barbara Barnes found Beckham not guilty of speeding, at the end of a highly technical day-long trial.

A year later, Ledley King (remember him?) scored his first League goal for Spurs in a 3-3 draw at Bradford City, yes, Bradford City  did once play in the Premier League. The goal was cored after 10 seconds, a PL record.

Closer to 2022, Australia may have gone "home" from the Qatar World Cup but squad member Cam Devlin carried with him the shirt from Messi's 1000th game. Jason "Cumdog" Cummins, formerly of Hibernian, Shrewsbury Town and Dundee was happy enough to get a "hug" from Lionel agfter the match.

While some of the Socceroos posted selfies with the peerless South American star, following the 2-1 World Cup loss to Argentina,  Devlin, who didn't play a single minute of the tournament, went one better, by getting the superstar's jersey. Worth a few bob?
