THE ROWLEYS AND BEER

Known as George Arthur Rowley Jr. (21 April 1926 – 19 December 2002), Arthur was nicknamed "The Gunner" because of his explosive left-foot shot. He was an English football player and cricketer. He was an English soccer forward (most goals in English league football, 434 from 619 games; Leicester City, Shrewsbury Town), died at 76 years old, December 19, 2002 (a Sunday).  He holds the record for the most goals in an England Football career, scoring 434 from 619 league games. 

Arthur holds the club record for the most goals in a single season at both Leicester City and Shrewsbury Town scoring 44 goals in 42 league matches at Leicester in 1956-7 and 38 goals in 43 games for Shrewsbury in 1958-9. He is also Shrewsbury's record league goalscorer with 152 league goals. He is Leicester's second all-time top goalscorer, netting 265 times for the Foxes, 8 goals short of Arthur Chandler's club record.

Arthur was the younger brother of Manchester United footballer, Jack Rowley, who was equally prolific and played for 17 years at Old Trafford, as well as:

Another Arthur Rowley (born 1870; date of death unknown) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Burslem Port Vale and Stoke City and in the Southern League with Bristol Rovers. He was the first player to score a goal straight from a DIRECT FREE KICK in the Football League.

AND TO CONCLUDE Borussia Dortmund, Germany's most popular soccer football club, was founded this day in 1909. The team won eight national championships, including the 2002 Bundesliga, and has the largest attendance in Germany. The name Borussia is Latin for Prussia,  a former European state that comprised much of what today is Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Russia. The club's name was taken from Borussia Beer brewed at the nearby Borussia brewery in Dortmund
