I am afraid I was hoping for a better result than Bromley's defeat in the FA Trophy Final yesterday at Wembley, part of Non-league Day.

Why have I a soft spot for Bromley FC? Well I did play against the Ravens (or the Lilywhites) from time to time and amidst the press stuff around the Trophy, they interviewed the author and mastermind behind a film, The Bromley Boys, based on the London club. Here is a trailer;

The Saints, Brackley Town FC from Northants, playing in the National League North (5th tier), were hoping for promotion to the National League, but failed when they lost a vital game to Harrogate Town, seven days earlier. facing another set back, The Saints were seconds away from defeat when they forced a late equaliser to take the game into "over time". A deflected shot rebounded off the post and struck Bromley defender, Roger Johnson ending up in the net, cancelling out Omar Bugiel's earlier goal. Bugiel later missed a penalty in the shoot out, which Brackley won 5-4.
Nearly 31,500 watched this game.
Brackley, founded in 1890, are from the higher sixth tier and play at St James' Park.

Since 2009, 8 out of the past 9 winners have come from the North-east;
Whitley Bay (3 times in succession), Dunston UTS, Spennymoor Town, North Shields, Morpeth Town, South Shields.
