DENMARK, BELGIUM, UKRAINE, NORTH MACEDONIA

Today Denmark play Belgium at the Parken Stadium and in the the Johan Cruyff ArenA, (one I have been to and yes that is another capital A in the title), Holland hosts Austria at 8pm.  IN case you missed it, here's my paragraph of very useful pub trivia:

Denmark, ranked 10th, playing in Group B comes from a country that brags that where ever you are in the country, you are never more than 50km from the sea. Christian Eriksen (below...we know about his "improving" health)  was their star player, but with a national anthem named "With spreading shady beech trees", the Danes have deep roots and broad branches, so will maintain stability without their leader. If they were an English club, the Danes would would be Leicester City and of course there's a Schmeichel in goal. He is one of 6 squad players earning their trade in the Premier League (Kasper, Vestergaard, Christensen, Hojbjerg) and Championship (two play for Brentford; Norgaard, Jensen).

AND for Belgium,

their FA founded in 1895, must be one of the favourites and are ranked 1st, with odds around 6-1 to win. If the Belgians were to give points to a country in the Eurovision Song Contest, they would support Holland with 12. Who would they give NUL pts to? The UK of course. Belgium spent 589 days without a government in 2010-11, the longest "absence" for any democracy. They met Russia in St Petersburg on June 12th winning 3-0 with Lukaku scoring twice and Meunier the other. They have a wonderful team on paper. As an English club? Man City of course, after a long period in the shadows, they have come out of their neighbour's shadow with some panache! Belgium has 9 Premier League players in their squad.

Score at mo-Denmark LOST 1-2. T. Hazard and De Bruyne (+ an assist) MoM. E Hazard an assist

ALSO Ukraine play North Macedonia in the National Arena already winning 2-0 at half time: The Ukraine (badge below), some entymologists suggest the name means "borderland", others "homeland". It boasts the World's deepest underground station, curiously named Arsenalna in Kiev, transporting trains 105.5 metres below ground. I don't think our Arsenal Tube Station is that far down under ground. They will give Estonia 12 pts in Eurovision and Ireland NUL. Not surprised by the Estonian vote, bit surprised by Ireland's! Must have been beaten by the Irish in Eurovision contest some time. Their squad in cludes TWO Premier League players-Yarmolenko, WHU and Zinchenko at Man City.

and North Macedonia are ranked 62th. Lake Ohrid, at 980 feet (approx 300m) is one of the deepest and the oldest in Europe (apparently). They will give Croatia 12 points and Greece NUL in Eurovision. 37 year old Goran Pandev is the icon of the country's football, sadly not a singer, and he scored his team's only goal.  North Macedonia (Macedonia until February 2019), officially the Republic of North Macedonia, is a country in Southeast Europe. It gained independence in 1991 as one of the successor states of Yugoslavia. ... The majority of the residents are ethnic Macedonians, a South Slavic people. They have one PL player-Alioski at Leeds.....badge below

Holland play Austria: look back for their pen pictures.
