Saturday 12th June: Wales play Switzerland in the Olympic Stadium, Baku. Where? Here are the Flame Towers in the capital of Azerbaijan. It is not just a modern city, there is an historic core.
Baku has a population of 2.3 m and the country 10 m.
Baku may be translated as "bad wind", blowing off the continent and modified by the breeze off the Caspian Sea, especially in Winter.
The Welsh (as I listen to the "Land of My Fathers" = "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau") are ranked 17th with odds of 100-1 to win the whole tournament. Who did the Welsh give "nul points" to in Eurovision? No need to guess....it was the England offering. St David's has the smallest population for a cathedral city in the World. The Welsh have qualified for two Euros; in 2016 getting to the memorable semi-final and this time. In all other competitions, they have not qualified for the finals.
The Swiss nation is one of two nations that have a "SQUARE" flag. The other? The Vatican City.
Apparently.......
Since 1339, the Swiss soldiers have worn a white cross on their uniforms. The soldiers from all differnt cantons decided on unifing the crosses with a red background. In 1815, Swiss batallions created flags with the white cross and a red background. As the sign on the clothings was square they took the square form to the flag. The Swiss are ranked 13th 66-1. Out of 15 tournaments, the Swiss have qualified 4 times oout of 15 attempts.
By all accounts, Nepal also has a square flag but it's also triangular! 5 sided, it represents the Himalayan mountains.
