ENGLAND HIT THE DUCKS

On June 4th 1988, England rolled out at Aylesbury United in a warm up for the European Championships in Germany. The home team were Southern League champions and they scored a DUCK. England unsurprisingly scored 7, but at least our chaps got a chance to hit the net.
In Germany they lost to the Republic of Ireland 0-1, lost to Holland 1-3 (Shilton's 100th cap)and also to the USSR 1-3, landing on their "duck's arse" and went home to roost earlier than they had expected.
The teams were picked from this squad (note a Waddle in the pond); Shilton, M.Stevens, Sansom, Webb, Hoddle, Wright, Adams, Robson, Waddle, Beardsley, Lineker, J Barnes, Hateley, Steven, Woods, Watson, McMahon.
The rest of the year (Sept-Dec) included a home win against Denmark 1-0, a home draw with Sweden 0-0 in a World Cup qualifier and a 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia (away).
Brian Marwood, Peter Davenport?? and Kevin Hector made the cut in the Autumn games. Pity the manager, Bobby Robson-such a nice man who has a film/documentary telling us the truth about Bobby.
